About the Web Quest
The web quest is designed for students to discover information on where their food comes from. Websites, videos and information have been sourced from Australian websites as well as some overseas to further enhance student's knowledge on the topic.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Before commencement of this web quest, it will be important that students know how to log on to a computer and access the internet via their school log on or one created by yourself. Google Slide share is used so that students can work collaboratively on the document at the same time it will be necessary to show students how to do this prior to the commencement of the assessment so to reduce any problems during the final assessment. You can find out more about Google Docs/Slide share here.
Suggestions to enhance the students learning
Invite a local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander elder or community member to come in and talk about the food their peoples/ancestors ate and in which seasons.
Students could work in groups and each investigate a product assigned to them by the teacher (or another preferred method). Investigators then work independently researching and investigating information on how their food is processed from the farm to their plate. Before finalising their information on their product, they first work in their experts group (others also investigating the same product) to improve and enhance their information sourced. Once happy they then report to their group with their information. The group then collaborates in creating a Google Doc Slide Share with the information about each of their investigated products. Each group will be allocated their own Slide Share template (Example here).
Students investigate recipes and cook or produce an artefact from their product.
The class could grow a garden and develop their own process of how the food is grown harvested, processed and then used to cook with.
